The Community Enrichment Laboratory for Learning Sciences (CELLS) is a nonprofit organization founded in February 2024. CELLS aims to foster interdisciplinary learning and collaboration within an innovative cluster of Makerspaces in Frederick, MD. Our goal is to provide education and access to laboratory and Makerspace tools for students, scientists, artists, professionals, and DIY enthusiasts to investigate and experiment through interactive, guided projects, classes, and workshops.

Mission Statement

CELLS mission is to cultivate a collaborative learning environment that empowers individuals of all ages to delve into Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM) topics, with a focus on emerging technologies like biotechnology. Through engaging, hands-on activities, we strive to nurture curiosity, creativity, and problem-solving skills, with the ultimate goal of providing our community with the knowledge they need to make well-informed decisions about emerging technologies.

Vision Statement

CELLS envisions a welcoming STEAM community space where participants can learn and create collaboratively. We believe that science, technology, and invention can be practiced by anyone, regardless of age, background, or financial status. Through hands-on exploration in our collaborative space, we envision empowering individuals by:

  • Providing access to tools and skills to bring their ideas to life

  • Providing a platform for experimentation and learning

  • Connecting with mentors and peers who can offer guidance and support

  • Cultivating critical thinking and problem-solving skills

By fostering a love of learning at any age, CELLS envisions a community of informed citizens, leaders and innovators working together to improve the future, but more importantly, empowers them to approach their everyday lives with curiosity, creativity, and a sense of possibility!

As a nonprofit startup, CELLS is run entirely by passionate volunteers donating their time, and helping us gather the necessary resources!
